This letter was sent to all known addresses: NEEDHAM BROUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL Class of 1962 P. O. Box 10872 Raleigh, NC 27605 - 0872 Email: classmail@nbhs1962.com July 20, 2007 45th CLASS REUNION: OCTOBER 13, 2007 REGISTRATION FORM ENCLOSED COME CELEBRATE THE SIXTIES IN YOUR SIXTIES! Dear Classmates, In 1962, our Senior Class marched out of Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium to take on the world. More than five-hundred strong, we left high school in many directions. We have always been a forward-looking group, but after decades of hard work and hard play, it's time to pause and look back on where we have been. On Saturday 13 October 2007, our class will gather at the Carolina Country Club to the strains of "the oldies" to reminisce about the formative years we spent growing up in Raleigh, to brag about our children and grandchildren (and I think even GREAT grandchildren for some of us), and to catch up on what we've been doing for the past four-and-a-half decades. We promise a casual and informal affair. Come as you are. No vanity allowed. If you haven't visited Raleigh lately, you will hardly recognize the place (assuming you still have your eyesight). Fayetteville Street is back-- as a street-- and downtown Raleigh is undergoing a two billion dollar renaissance. Extensive renovations to Broughton itself are complete, although the building retains its stately character as a Raleigh landmark. With its stone walls, its red terra cotta roof and weathered copper tower, it is one of the most beautiful public schools anywhere. We are trying to arrange a tour. Even if you cannot join us for this gathering, you can help make the event the best ever, and at the same time give us a head start as we ramp up for the Fiftieth (and probably final) Class Reunion in 2012. Here is what you can do now. 1. If you have email, make certain we have your correct email address. We have found that email is the fastest, least expensive, and most convenient way to communicate with classmates. 2. Regardless of whether you have email, make certain we have your correct street or post office address. We still use "snail mail." 3. Check out the Class Website at www.nbhs1962.com. Unfortunately, the website crashed last week and we temporarily lost a lot of data. Webmaster Bob Denlinger is optimistic that we can recover, however, so check the website periodically for updates. 4. Our records are remarkably complete after forty-five years. Sam Southern has the hard copies, and Bob will put them on the website. Can you help us locate "lost" classmates? Almost one hundred are missing in action. Do you know of a death that has not been listed? Sadly, forty-eight deaths are confirmed, and there are probably others among the missing. Can you help us update old addresses? 5. Regardless of whether you attend the reunion in October, if you would like to contribute to Class of '62 administrative costs (which include postage, stationery, website, etc.), we suggest a totally voluntary $5 per year class dues to help defray these costs, with any excess to be applied to the Fiftieth "Final Farewell" Reunion. The small annual dues will keep us operational until then. If you wish to contribute, make your dues check payable to "Broughton Class of 62" and mail to our post office box at the top of this letter. Why not include it with your registration form, and save a stamp? Please remember to update changes in your contact information as they occur. Many of us will be retiring or relocating in the next five years. Sam is our "keeper of the rolls." Please provide him or another on the Committee with any updates. Sam's email address currently is sam.southern@smithmoorelaw.com. Our class mailing address is P. O. Box 10872, Raleigh, NC 27605 – 0872. Until the big FIVE-OH, we will try to distribute a class newsletter or e-newsletter at least annually. In the meantime, please take time to COMPLETE
