Sold my little airplane, bought a bigger sailboat. Age 70, first-time ocean (OK, coastal offshore :-) singlehanded - Annapolis to Morehead City, 6 days, 3 nonstop, then ran aground inside the marina :-).

Retirement. Cape Lookout Yacht Club - Commodore. Age 80, ran for Morehead City Council, unsuccesful bid to remove town corruption. Protest leader to remove Beaufort Courthouse Confederate Statue. 2025, founded Morehead City Historical Society to protect National Register Historic District from demolition.

Married in Winchester, VA; Rosedale Farm, VA; Abingdon, VA and Abingdon, VA. Estranged from sons and sister. Diagnosed PTSD, anxiety and depression; a little pill a day works, mostly.

Attended NBHS '62 and '63 reunions (I was senior both years) with lovely, warm classmates, 2012 and 2013. Worked from 15 (Pilot Mills, Raleigh) to 70 1/2 (FAA HQ Washington). Retirement is Christmas every day - KOW. 2025.

Getting caught smoking in the school parking lot was an automatic 3-day suspension. So, sitting in the assistant-principal's office, admitting my guilt, and most respectfully refusing, repeatedly, to reveal the identity of the young lady with whom I was smoking, I was toast, on my way out.

He never told me why, but I've always believed he found a young man's loyalty under duress to his friend, coupled with a stern warning, sufficient. No one could believe I was not suspended, most of all, I. From him that day, I learned lessons in loyalty, judgement and forbearance.
