Ginger and I began dating in 1960, married in 1965, and lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, until 1967 while I finished my undergraduate work in political science. We moved to Charlotte, where she was a school teacher and I worked in various positions in the City of Charlotte personnel department.

I obtained an educational leave and we again lived in Chapel Hill from 1971-72 while I worked on a Master of Public Administration degree. We returned to Charlotte and resumed our careers, remaining there until 1974, when I was appointed Assistant City Manager of Decatur, Georgia. Ginger continued her work as a middle school music teacher until Lauren was born in 1977. She eventually resumed work as the school secretary for Lauren's elementary school.

We remained in Decatur until 1989. That year, I was appointed Public Safety Director of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Ginger became the school secretary/bookkeeper/business manager for a middle school in Chapel Hill.

In 1990, I was selected by the Council as Town Manager. I served in that post for sixteen years, until I retired in 2006. I also was an adjunct faculty member in the UNC School of Government, teaching the courses in city and county management in the Master of Public Administration Program from 2002 to 2008.

Ginger and I moved to Prescott, Arizona, in 2010. Prescott is in the central mountains, in the middle of the Prescott National Forest. We traveled, hiked, and served as volunteers for the US Forest Service and the Highlands Center for Natural History.

In March, 2022, we moved to DeLand, FL, a small college town (Stetson University) and are enjoying exploring our new state and visiting with our daughter and her family.

Ginger and I both volunteer at the Lyonia Environmental Center.

School Story:

Some of my favorite memories: our championship football team's outstanding season during our senior year; hours and hours at the L&M; open house at White Memorial; singing for Judy Freeman as a member of the Ensemble; Oklahoma; falling in love with Ginger.

Dear Friend Karen: I trust that all goes well for you, and that you will enjoy a very fine bottle or two...or three... of your favorite celebratory beverage with good friends. I hope, also, that your British friends understand that you are in no way responsible for the crude, boorish, vulgar, etc. behavior of donald trump and his ofal-bearers. Happy Birthday! Cal

Happy Birthday friend Harold! I hope that all goes well for you. Here we are in our eighties and grateful to be around. I have many good memories of our time at Morson and Broughton. As Jimmy Capps used to say: "My best to you." Calvin
